Sweet scents for candles: how not to overdo the composition

Gourmands are the most frequently purchased family in our store, and at the same time, the easiest to overdo. Vanilla, caramel, or cookies are intense even at lower dosages, and if used in excess, they can dominate a room and become tiring after just a few minutes of burning.

Start at the lower limit

For your first attempt, it's worth starting at the lower end of the range provided on the product sheet and only increasing the concentration with subsequent batches. A candle evaluated cold can be misleading, as the full power of a sweet note is only revealed when the wax is heated. Record the dosage for each attempt; otherwise, it will be difficult to replicate a successful product.

Combining with other families

Gourmands pair well with other scents. A spicy note adds character and makes the composition less dessert-like, while a woody or coffee accent breaks up the sweetness and extends the scent's longevity. They are most challenging to combine with citrus, as the combination can be harsh and quickly fall apart.

Seasonality

This family performs well throughout the year, but its peak is in autumn and winter. Vanilla, chocolate, and cookies are also included in holiday collections as a gift base. We include an IFRA certificate, a safety data sheet, and a list of allergens for CLP labeling with every fragrance oil.
